The Northwestern Oklahoma State University instrumental program welcomes college students, high school students and community members to participate in five rehearsals leading to a Community Band Concert April 28 at 7 p.m. in Herod Hall auditorium.

Rehearsals will be each Tuesday from 6:55-8:45 p.m. beginning March 21 in Fine Arts 310 on the Alva campus. The community band members will practice and perform alongside all members of the Northwestern Band.

“The purpose of the community band is to promote involvement with both the community and the band,” Dr. Marc Decker, director of instrumental music and music education, said.

Decker said the Community Band will perform a variety of music. Students who are studying music education will be featured guest conductors during this program so they can gain an educational experience with the community. Anyone who can play an instrument is encouraged to participate including college students not currently enrolled in band.

The band and concert are free and open to the public.

For more information on the Community Band or the instrumental music program at Northwestern contact Decker at (580) 327-8191 or mddecker@nwosu.edu.
