The annual contest to select a theme for the 2013 Alva/Northwestern Oklahoma State University Homecoming has begun, and is open to the public. Deadline for submitting entries is 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 30.
This year’s Homecoming will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 24, through Saturday, Oct. 26.
Suggestions must be limited to 10 words or fewer and should be something that can be illustrated through designs for floats, sheet signs and dorm decorations.
The person who submits the winning theme will receive a commemorative Homecoming t-shirt and a Homecoming button that will allow admissions into the Miss Cinderella Talent Show, Pageant and the Ranger football game.
Members of the homecoming committee are not eligible to compete for the prize.
Dr. Aaron Mason and Dr. Eric Schmaltz, Homecoming chairmen, explained that if a winning theme suggestion does not come from the public, the committee will devise one, and there will be no award.
They said the committee also is looking for suggestions for honorary parade marshal. Persons nominated must have a significant connection, current or past, to Northwestern, whether as a student, faculty member, staff member, coach, administrator or friend of the university.
Entries and nominations may be turned in at the Alva Chamber of Commerce Office, 502 Oklahoma Blvd, or at the NWOSU Bookstore. Suggestions also may be submitted by visiting www.nwosu.edu/2013-homecoming-theme.
