 Fundraising Goal Met

Northwestern Oklahoma State University students thank donors for their generous investments in student scholarships.

To kick off its new annual giving program, RISE (Rangers Investing in Students & Education), the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association asked friends of the University to “RISE for Northwestern students” during this year’s Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to giving.

An anonymous donor and alumnus David Johnson, a former student between 1972-1973, each generously pledged $10,000 to be matched during the campaign from Nov.4-Dec. 1. Every gift was matched by both donors up to a cumulative total of $10,000, creating a two to one matching gift rate; meaning every $1 generated $3. The goal of $30,000 was reached Nov. 30 and additional donations were received by Dec. 1, creating a grand total of $31,734.

Skeeter Bird, CEO of the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association said it is exciting to see such a high level of support from donors during the organization’s first online fundraising event.

“As always, the donors deserve the credit because they delivered the generous investment in our students,” said Bird. “This project was the idea of staff members Susan Holliday and Jennifer Grassano, but was successful because the whole staff pitched in and made the project work. We learned a great deal during this process that we will apply in later projects.”

Each gift is added to the endowment of the donor’s choice. If no choice is made, the funds go to the general endowed scholarship fund. Each gift helps Northwestern students in their pursuit of higher education.
