The final touches for Saturday’s Holiday Gift Store for Kids/Photos with Santa event in the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Student Center in Alva are underway by members of the NWOSU Art Society (NAS).

Children will be able to shop for inexpensive presents for their family and friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. NAS members and other volunteers will be on hand to help each child make gift selections according to their budget. All gifts will be wrapped and ready for the holiday.

“This makes the sixth year our club has offered this service for the children in our area,” Angelia Case, NAS sponsor, said. “We love seeing these kids learning about how good it feels to give to others.

“We also want to make it a positive experience for everyone, so we try to limit the number of children in the store at one time so it doesn’t get too overwhelming for anyone,” Case said. “We’ll have a sign-up sheet at the door and will try our best to admit each child on a first-come, first-serve basis.”

Case also asks for the cooperation from those attending this event to pay with bills no larger than $20 to help the organization keep enough smaller denominations to make change throughout the day.

For those waiting to shop, Santa Claus will be next door to the store to visit and take photos. The photographer generally takes several photos of the child visiting with Santa. After the photo session, families will be able to view the photos and make their selections at one of three viewing stations. Each photo selected is $5.

“We ask that those coming for Photos with Santa bring a jump drive or have a working email address,” Case said. “After the photos are selected, we can either save the photos directly to that jump drive or email the digital files early the next week. Families will have permission to print these photos however and wherever they want to.

“We also want you to know that kids of all ages are welcome to have their photo taken with Santa,” Case added. “I know our members kind of enjoy it.”
