Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s employees were honored during the 12th annual Employee Service Recognition Ceremony Nov. 17. Ceremonies were held in Alva and Enid to honor employees who work at Alva, Enid and Woodward campus locations.
Dr. Mindi Clark, assistant professor of agriculture, received the John Barton Distinguished Teaching and Service Award during the annual ceremony. Nominations for the award are made by faculty, staff and students then the recipient is determined by a selection committee. To be selected, the recipient must be a full-time faculty member at Northwestern and exemplify distinguished teaching and administrative leadership.
Fred Riggins, maintenance/telecommunications, received the Thelma Crouch Staff Employee of the Year award. This award was established to recognize exceptional performance and/or service by a member of the Northwestern staff. The recipient of this award shows dedication to Northwestern and its students. The Student Government Association accepts nominations for this award and then determines the recipient.
Employees who were honored for their years of service are listed by name and job title:
- Five-year service recognition: Dr. Mindi Clark; Roxann Clark, instructor of education; Dr. Leslie Collins, assistant chair of the division of nursing and instructor of nursing; Dr. Colleen Golightly, assistant professor of education; Stephanie Widick, instructor of psychology; and Dr. Claudia Young, assistant professor of Spanish.
- 10-year service recognition: Skeeter Bird, chief executive officer of the Foundation and Alumni Association; Jake Boedecker, online learning coordinator/webmaster; Kirby Darbe, campus police officer; A.J. Johnson, maintenance and lead custodian; Dr. Aaron J. Place, associate professor of biology; Dr. Kylene Rehder, associate professor of social work and department chair of social work; and Dr. Eric Schmaltz, associate professor of history.
- 15-year service recognition: LeRoy Burks, campus police chief; Verna Graybill, access services librarian and instructor of library and information services; and Eric Tutwiler, maintenance.
- 20-year service recognition: Dr. Sheila Brintnall, professor of mathematics; Dean Kilgore, maintenance; Marilyn Moore, assistant director of systems librarian and instructor of library and information services; Dr. Venkata Moorthy, professor of biology; Dr. Cynthia Pfeifer-Hill, professor of biology; and Fred Riggins.
- 25-year service recognition: Angelia Case, academic projects assistant and media specialist; Dr. Roger Hardaway, professor of history; and Dr. Chandler Mead, professor of sports science and chair of the health and sports science education department.
- 30-year service recognition: Dr. Steve Lohmann, executive vice president.
Several employees also were recognized during the ceremony for their service to the Faculty Senate, Staff Council and Professional Staff Council, as well as for recognition of Grant and Diversity Initiatives and Service Learning Initiatives.
