Eight Northwestern Oklahoma State University Division of Business faculty members attended the MBAA International Conference in Chicago from March 25-27. The annual conference draws 700-800 business faculty members from across the United States and abroad.
MBAA International consists of 12 academic organizations representing a variety of business disciplines. Dr. Steven Palmer, professor of business and chair of the Division of Business, serves on the MBAA International Advisory Board.
Dr. Ralph Bourret, associate professor of accounting, and Dr. Wei Zhou, assistant professor of economics, presented a paper titled “The Effect of Differing Philosophies on Employment in Minnesota and Wisconsin.” Dr. Jim Breyley, professor of business, presented “The 2007-2010 Financial Crisis: Another Explanation as to Cause.”
Dr. Roger Brown, assistant professor of business, presented “Collective and Interpersonal Transformational Leadership and LMX.” The paper was co-authored by Dr. Ankur Nandedkar of Cameron University.
Dr. David Hawkins, assistant professor of business, presented his paper titled “Government Regulations: Form and Function.” Dr. Joseph Nnanna, assistant professor of business, co-authored and presented “Surviving to Thriving after the Global Financial Crisis: Evidence from the Developing World.” His co-author was Dr. Wayne Smith of Argosy University-Dallas.
Dr. John Stockmyer, associate professor of business, presented “Amazon’s KDP Select Program: Is it Illegal or Just Anti-Competitive?” Stockmyer also presented a session with Dr. Lee Weyant, Kutztown University, titled “Introducing Social Media to the Neophyte.”
Palmer and Weyant presented “Screencasting: An Application for Business Education.” Palmer also presented the paper “Fairness May Return to Taxation: Is the Jock Tax Dying?” which was co-authored by Dr. Jordan Kobritz, State University of New York-Cortland. Palmer made a third presentation titled “Classroom Exercises in Teaching Affirmative Action.”
In addition to the three presentations, Palmer chaired a panel discussion on “Incorporating Social Media into the Classroom” and the “Getting Published Roundtable.”
Palmer served as president of two of the 12 organizations, the Midwest Academy of Legal Studies in Business and the Business, Society & Government Consortium. He was re-elected president of the Business, Society & Government Consortium.
