After raising more than $30,000 for student scholarships last November, the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association kicks off another holiday season by participating in the global #GivingTuesday movement for the second year. Gifts made to the RISE (Rangers Investing in Students & Education) annual giving fund from November 29 – December 16 will count toward the Giving Tuesday campaign.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely-recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It kick offs the holiday giving season and inspires people to collaborate in improving their local communities by giving back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
The Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association joins the movement to encourage every person to give at some level. This philanthropy helps ensure Northwestern students’ scholarship support continues at the level needed to sustain excellent performance.
“Last year was the first year we ever participated in Giving Tuesday and we were incredibly impressed by the support we were able to provide to our students through the generosity of our donors,” said Skeeter Bird, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association CEO. “One of our primary goals this year is to significantly increase the number of online participants in this worldwide event. I feel confident we can do that.”
Those who choose to give to Northwestern students during the #GivingTuesday campaign are encouraged to follow the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association’s social media accounts to stay informed on the progress being made.
