On Wednesday, April 17, Northwestern Oklahoma State University alumni and friends are invited to watch the Rangers take on Southern Nazarene University in a nine-inning baseball matchup at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid. The 6 p.m. game is part of Northwestern’s eighth annual Enid-area alumni spring event, Baseball, Hot Dogs & Apple Pie.
The Rowdy Rangers, a Northwestern athletics booster group, will begin serving free hot dogs and apple pie at 5:30 p.m. before Mayor Bill Shewey throws the first pitch and Northwestern freshman Isi Ofiu sings the national anthem.
“We had a great turnout last year, so we have ordered even more food this year,” Lizabeth Richey, director of alumni relations, said.
The evening will also feature an on-field presentation by Great American Conference Commissioner Will Prewitt recognizing the Northwestern men’s basketball team. The team tied for the best record in the conference during the 2012-2013 season. Northwestern announced its acceptance into the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II membership process in July, and Northwestern student-athletes began competing in the Great American Conference last fall.
Regular ballpark admission applies. Area high school baseball players wearing their jerseys will be admitted free of charge. Northwestern students who present their student IDs and children under 12 with an adult will also receive free entry. Senior citizen admission is two for the price of one. Due to downtown construction, alumni and fans are advised to arrive early to find parking.
The event is hosted by the Greater Enid Northwestern Oklahoma State University Alumni Task Force, which includes Eldon Ames, Bill Baker, Lori Coonrod, Bonnie Espinoza, Delena Hardaway, Larry Kiner, Dr. Wayne McMillin, Richey, Daron Rudy and Dennis Wilson.
