Northwestern Oklahoma State University held its annual Ranger Royalty Banquet Tuesday following the first round of voting for king and queen candidates. The Student Government Association (SGA) officers announced this year’s Freshman Queen, Jenna Castor of Shattuck (pictured right), and named the six final candidates for Rangers King and Ranger Queen. The winners for Ranger King and Queen will be announced Oct. 1 during halftime of the Ranger Homecoming football game.
Castor, is a pre-dental hygiene major. She enjoys singing and is a member of the Ranger Cheer Team, Aggie Club, and FCA this is Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). She is the daughter of Scott Castor and Shawn and Kara Pence.
The first Ranger King finalist is Shekhar Adhikari (right), a senior computer science major from Nepal. He is sponsored by the International Student Association and is an active member of the organization. Adhikari’s hobbies include running, swimming and loving life. He is the son of Laxmi and Ramala Adhikari.
Second Ranger King finalist is Isi Ofiu (left), a senior music education major from Anchorage, Alaska. He is sponsored by the University Choirs. Ofiu enjoys music, jam sessions, and hanging out with his kids and practicing soccer and softball with them. He is the son of Isileli, Sr. and Setalaite Ofiu.
The third Ranger King finalist is J.C. Wells (center), a sophomore math education and health and sports science education major from Laverne. He is sponsored by the Northwestern Baseball team and is a current member on the team. Wells also is involved in SGA, NSA Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors, BCM Baptist Collegiate Ministry, Math Club and is a Coronado Hall resident assistant (RA). Wells is the son of Richard Wells and Gretchen Treadwell.
The first Ranger Queen finalist is Jacey Bales (left), a sophomore elementary education major from Morrison. Bales is sponsored by Alpha Sigma Alpha (ASA) and is a current member of the organization. She also is involved in SGA as the treasurer, is the social chairman for ASA, and an RA for South Hall. Bales is the daughter of Cory and Amber Bales.
The second Ranger Queen finalist is Emily Harris (center), a junior elementary education major from Alva. Harris is sponsored by The Bible Chair and enjoys watching OU football with her momma and working at Taco Village. She is the daughter of Patrick and Resa Harris.
The third Ranger Queen finalist is Cinthya Nevarez (right), a senior early childhood education major from Laverne. Nevarez is being sponsored by the NWOSU Art Society and is a current member of the organization. She is the daughter of Manuel and Yesenia Rascon.
Other Ranger Queen candidates were Devan Harris-Shahan, senior health and sports science education major from Enid and Rachel Lugendo, senior general education major from Lewisville, Texas. Other Freshman Queen candidates were Kylie Wilson, health and sports science major from Helena; Kayley Harris, nursing major from Norman; Meghan Webb, pre-med major from Alva; and Kaitlyn Kilian, nursing major from Medford.
The second and final round of voting for Ranger King and Queen will take place Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 26-27.
The Ranger King and Ranger Queen Coronation ceremony will take place during halftime of the homecoming football game against East Central University on Saturday, Oct. 1. The game starts at 4 p.m.
