Northwestern education students learn about real world issues

Alva’s Lincoln Elementary School Principal Tim Argo provided real world and practical knowledge to students in Northwestern’s Classroom Management and Behavior Intervention class recently.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University students learning to be teachers heard about real world classroom issues and gained practical knowledge straight from someone who deals with elementary school students on a daily basis recently.

Tim Argo, principal at Alva’s Lincoln Elementary School, was the guest speaker in the Classroom Management and Behavior Intervention class taught by Connie Jacobs, instructor of education at Northwestern.

“He spoke about the importance of teaching school-age students procedures and expectations for positive behavior in all school environments,” Jacobs said. “He also explained a school-wide token economy program to help motivate students for positive behaviors.”

Jacobs also said that Argo “elaborated on the importance of addressing bullying in school and shared that Alva Schools provide annual professional development for their teachers to learn best practices in supporting positive student behaviors.”

Jacobs is thankful for the opportunity to provide guest speakers in her classes who can share their knowledge directly from the field.

“Northwestern values the partnerships with area schools to support our future teacher candidates,” Jacobs said.
