Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Psychology department is taking the first step in its Student Success Initiative by providing a specific place on all three campuses for psychology and counseling students.
“Education in Psychology Interactive Center,” also known as “EPIC,” is a place of full resources for students, where they can come for tutoring, homework help, to study, research or to hang out said Dr. Cristina Gordon, assistant professor of psychology and department chair of psychology.
Located on the Alva campus in room 214 in the Education Center, the grand opening will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4. The grand opening for Enid and Woodward campus EPIC rooms will take place at a later date.
The EPIC rooms are being provided for students who are taking any psychology or counseling classes.
The psychology instructors will have scheduled times of when they will be in the rooms to assist students. One textbook from each of the current psychology and counseling classes will be made available for students to use within the room along with other resources.
There are two dry-erase board tables, full wall-length painted whiteboards and a computer. Gordon explained that writing on the tables and walls can help with creativity while studying. To help students feel comfortable Stephanie Widick, instructor of psychology, donated a Keurig machine at the Alva campus.
“This is one small piece of a full Student Success Initiative that we are starting in our department,” Gordon said.
