The 13th annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show will be March 6-26, 2016, in the J.W. Martin Library, and the organization is shaking up the categories this year for all Northwestern Oklahoma State University students, employees, retired employees and alumni.
Once the show is underway, everyone will be able to view the artwork on display during regular library hours.
“This is our 13th year to offer our campus communities an avenue to display their creativity, but we decided that we didn’t want to become predictable each year with what our categories were going to be,” said Angelia Case, sponsor of the group. “We have some of the same categories and a lot of new ones including a special photography category dubbed ’13.’ This category is open to interpretation and will call for those entering a photo to depict the number 13 in some manner to help us celebrate the number of our show. We’re looking forward to seeing how creatively people will approach this broad topic.
“We also wanted to make sure people were aware of the show early this year so they can use the holiday break to work on their fine art, photography and artisan crafts,” Case said. “Students should be particularly interested in our show because they can win prize money along with ribbons. Our non-students who enter will be eligible for ribbons for their winning pieces.”
Categories within the Visual Arts Division will include Cartoon/Comics, Digital Art, Drawing, Mixed Media, Painting, Watercolor and 3-Dimensional/Sculpture.
The Artisan Crafts Division will include Crochet/Knitting/Needlework, Quilts, Jewelry, Pottery and a Wildcard category for entries that don’t fit anywhere else.
The Photography Division will include Action, Animals, Black and White, Cityscapes, Landscapes, Light, Elements of Design, Macro, Northwestern Campus Life, People, Plants and a Wildcard category for entries that don’t fit anywhere else.
Students will be able to win the following prize money: Best of Show, $75; Division Winner, $50; and prizes for first, second and third will be $15, $5 and $2 for each category. Everyone will be eligible for the $50 People’s Choice award after votes are counted from those attending the show.
The deadline to enter artwork into this year’s show is Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, with the work to be delivered to the J.W. Martin Library on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. The club members currently are working on updating the entry form, and it will be available online at www.nwosu.edu/art as well as in print form in various locations across the campuses in Alva, Enid and Woodward.
