In October, 221 Northwestern Oklahoma State University students called and wrote to hundreds of donors to thank them for their gifts to the university.
Members of the women’s soccer team, men’s and women’s basketball teams, men’s baseball team, women’s softball team, Castle Players, Student Oklahoma Education Association (SOEA), Alpha Sigma Alpha, cheerleading and dance teams, Student Government Association, Art Society, Psychology Club and Enid Psychology Club contacted alumni and friends of the university Oct. 26 – Nov. 2.
“We had a tremendous student turnout this year with 221 students volunteering,” said Susan Holliday, Northwestern Foundation’s relationship manager. “As always, I am pleased to be associated with this event and this university. Our students are grateful and caring.”
The goal for the students was to contact 711 donors, but by the end of the week a total of 1,884 contacts were made through a combination of phone calls, phone messages and handwritten letters. Students find the Thank-a-Thon to be an opportunity to repay the donors for what they have given.
“Volunteering for the Thank-a-Thon is a small way for me to repay the donors who support my scholarships,” said Amanda Metcalf, sophomore, instrumental music major. “This year my scholarships covered all my expenses including tuition and books, and for that I am thankful.”
Along with phone calls and written notes, students also were joined by several donors during the week-long event for a face-to-face ‘thank you’, as well as faculty, staff and coaches participating in the event.
“I’m excited to see this event continue to grow each year. This year’s event had the highest number of student volunteers and donors from our community attending to date,” said Holliday. “Faculty, staff and coaches also joined us. That shows what a fabulous community we have at Northwestern.”
