Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Fine Arts will present a public performance of the children’s production “Cinderella! Cinderella!” on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium on the Alva campus.
“Cinderella! Cinderella!,” written by Edith Weiss and directed by Kimberly Weast, Fine Arts Department chair and professor of theatre, provides humor and a great lesson right before Thanksgiving break.
In an English village in 1342, Cinderella, a plain-looking girl with big feet, has to compete with her two mean-spirited but stunningly gorgeous stepsisters for the hand of the kind and sincere prince. With the help of her faithful feline companion, Tom, and a lovable but vision-impaired Fairy Godmother who’s always using the wrong wand, Cinderella finally learns that magic isn’t the answer to her problems.Courage, kindness and self-confidence trump superficial beauty and an expensive wardrobe.
From Tom’s slapstick shenanigans to Lady Lotta Bonbon’s cat allergies to cupcakes in the face at the ball, everyone laughs their way through the valuable lessons learned — even the hateful stepsisters see that a kind heart is what emanates true beauty. A comic delight for all ages!
The “Cinderella! Cinderella!” cast includes eight members: Cinderella will be played by Shy Ann Floyd, Skiatook freshman majoring in speech and theatre; Herald Herold, played by Trenton Judd, Sapulpa senior majoring in speech and theatre; Prunella, played by Tory Hurley, Sheffield, Iowa, sophomore majoring in speech and theatre; Crudella, played by Ashley Litke, a junior vocal music major from Pryor; Tom, played by Mickey Jordan, Iowa Park, Texas, junior majoring in speech and theatre; Lady Lotta Bonbon will be played by Michelle Penner, a speech and theatre alumna and graduate student from Cherokee; Fairy Godmother, played by Hayden Nickel, Helena sophomore majoring in speech and theatre; and the Prince will be played by Nicholas Wygle, Noble freshman majoring in biology.
