To celebrate the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society's 10th year, club members are challenging all exhibitors to use a little extra creativity in their work this year and have set a show theme of “Creativity Takes Courage – Celebrating the Arts: Honoring a Decade of NWOSU Art Society.”
Entry forms, both printed and online, must be submitted no later than Feb. 27 with all physical art pieces being due in the Media Center, second floor of J.W. Martin Library, no later than March 6. The show opens to the viewing public March 9 in the library.
Entries into the art show are free, and are open to all Northwestern students, current and retired university employees and Northwestern alumni. Each person entering may submit no more than two items per category.
Angelia Case, Art Society sponsor, said that anyone who cannot drop off their artwork as scheduled must make special arrangements before March 6 by calling (580) 327-8577 or emailing arcase@nwosu.edu. If mailing pieces for the show, exhibitors must provide the postage to return the pieces.
New to the show this year are two photography categories: Macro and Abstract. The Recycle, Re-Use, ReArt category also has been moved into the Artisan Crafts division so the first place winner may compete for other top art show prizes. The Jewelry category also has been moved out of Functional Art to become its own category.
This year’s “Special Category” is titled “Celebrating the Arts” to honor the Art Society’s 10th year. Special attention should be given to creativity and attention to detail (lighting, composition, angles, etc.). Subject matter should celebrate The Arts (Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Musical Arts, etc.). Pieces may be submitted in this category (only) using any medium (ex: photography, studio art, artisan crafts).
Studio Art categories include drawings, paintings, mixed media, print design and sculpture. Artisan Crafts categories include Functional Art, Non-Functional Art, Jewelry, Textile/Quilts/Needlework and Recycle, Re-use, ReArt.
Photography categories include Plant Life, Animals, Landscapes, Black and White, Conceptual, Elements of Design, People, Photojournalism, Photomanipulation, Ranger Surprise, Macro and Abstract.
A detailed list and explanation for each category is available on the NAS website at www.nwosu.edu/nas-art-show. Rules on how to submit artwork also is available on the website.
All photos submitted must be at least 5x7 in size, mounted or matted, no frames. All other work needs to be matted and/or framed, if framing is possible. Only three-dimensional work is exempt, and it must be labeled.

All winning art entries are eligible to be on display at a community art show to take place during First Friday Art Walk events in downtown Alva at the Runnymede Hotel on April 5.
