Members from the Department of Social Work at Northwestern Oklahoma State University were in attendance to learn about legislative issues impacting the social work profession. Those students who attended were Amber Cook, Yukon senior; Raquel Conway, Fargo junior; and Kylie Pethoud, Mutual senior.
“We discussed current bills that would affect social work practice or our clients and how to communicate with our legislators,” Conway said.
Legislative Day is designed to encourage social workers and students to become more familiar with the political and policy-making process. Kate Richey from the Oklahoma Policy Institute presented, and students had the opportunity to meet with legislators and discuss matters relevant to the profession and vulnerable populations in the State of Oklahoma.
