Four graduate students in the Master of Counseling Psychology program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University have been selected to present at the 2013 Mid-Winter Oklahoma Counseling Association (OCA) Conference.

Emily Williams of Alva; Kyle Leisher, Forgan; Keri Alva, Fargo; and Ana Ciudnaia Melrose of Enid, will attend and present at the annual conference in Midwest City on Feb. 21-22.

The Mid-Winter OCA Conference is a peer-reviewed, state-level conference.

The OCA is the state professional organization working in collaboration with the American Counseling Association to establish and maintain academic rigor and ethical behavior for faculty teaching in counseling oriented programs, and for those graduate students seeking the License as a Professional Counselor. The OCA also serves as a lobbyist for License Professional Counselors in the state legislature.

Williams and Leisher will join Dr. Karen Linstrum, assistant professor of psychology, in presenting “Formative Evaluation: Using the Critical Incident Questionnaire in a Graduate Counseling Course on Cultural Diversity.” They will specifically present the results of the recently conducted diversity panel discussion concerning international students at Northwestern.

Alva will present “Adolescents and Substance Abuse,” and Linstrum will serve as a co-presenter.

Ciudnaia Melrose and Linstrum will present “Awakening Presence in Trauma Treatment.” Ciudnaia Melrose recently received training investigating the use of trauma sensitive yoga with trauma survivors.
