NWOSU Foundation Release
This spring, four Northwestern Oklahoma State University students will receive scholarship assistance after participating in Scholarships Matter, a creative contest sponsored by the Northwestern Foundation. To enter the contest, students had to create and submit a video answering the question “What does being a Ranger mean to you?”
The first place winner of a $1,000 scholarship is Bimala Gurung, a junior mass communication major from Nepal. Her video may be viewed at http://youtu.be/wfaIxv3bE-I.
The second place winner of $750 is a team of Samy Mack III, a sophomore history education major, and Joshua Stephens, a senior mass communication major, both of Sapulpa. Their video may be viewed at http://youtu.be/kqP-f7EGkUo.
The third place winner of $500 is Wei Wu, a sophomore computer science major from China. This video may be viewed at http://youtu.be/HJx3-iF-EA4.
“Receiving this scholarship helps a lot,” Gurung said. “It means I can worry less about tuition and focus more on my studies. I’m very thankful to the Foundation for this contest.”
The scholarship contest was intended for Northwestern full-time continuing students with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Students submitting the top three videos will receive a scholarship in the spring and an invitation to speak at a Northwestern Foundation and Alumni Association sponsored event.
“This year’s Scholarships Matter video submissions answered the question by showing school spirit and Ranger pride,” said Susan Holliday, Northwestern Foundation relationship manager and contest coordinator. “We are proud of the caliber of applicants we had and hope to grow this scholarship opportunity for the future.”
